Texas just hit the brakes on the AI data center gold rush. 🚨 More than 1,800 proposed data center projects are reportedly seeking connections to the Texas power grid, with requests totaling a staggering 474 GW of electricity. For perspective: that’s an enormous amount of power compared with what the entire U.S. currently generates at any given moment. So while Big Tech keeps promising an AI-powered future, states are being forced to confront a pretty basic question: where exactly is all that electricity supposed to come from? AI isn’t running on magic. It’s running on power grids, water, land, and infrastructure that real people already depend on. Maybe building data centers faster than we can build the infrastructure to support them wasn’t the genius plan Silicon Valley thought it was.
