✨ 10 National Book Festival 2026 Tips✨ One of the nation’s largest literary events is Saturday, August 22 from 9AM to 8PM ET at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC. 😉 Here are my top 10 tips for a great #NatBookFest experience… 1️⃣ The festival is free, family friendly and open to the public. However, you must register to attend. Register ASAP at loc dot gov to avoid timely on-site, same-day registration. 2️⃣ The full festival lineup and schedule is live on the book festival’s website. Study the schedule before you go to get an idea of the activities, panels and book signings you want to attend. There’s no registration for individual events. 3️⃣ The schedule on the festival has an “Add to Calendar” feature, so you can build your own itinerary for the day. Use it to create calendar items on your device. 4️⃣ The 2026 National Book Festival is the same day as the Freedom 250 Grand Prix race. There will be street closures that may affect your trip. 5️⃣ You can find street and garage parking at your expense, but the best ways to get to the convention center is via ride share or public transportation. The ride share drop-off and pick up location is Allen Y. Lew Place, between 7th St. NW and 9th St. NW. The nearest metro station is Mount Vernon Square on the Yellow and Green lines. 6️⃣ You’re only permitted to enter with one (1) personal item like a purse or tote bag and one (1) backpack or rolling cart/bag not exceeding the dimensions 20in x 18in x 18in. 7️⃣ You’re permitted to bring water and a small lunch and snacks. Water bottles should be disposable. Glass and metal containers and coolers are prohibited in the convention center. 8️⃣ Author and book signings typically take place after panels, but please consult the book signing schedule on the festival website. Some authors will have long book signing lines. You can line up early up to one (1) hour in advance. Please be mindful of how many books you purchase or bring from home to sign. The amount you can get signed is at the discretion of the author and festival. 9️⃣ Dress casually and comfortably and wear shoes that you can walk and stand all day in. 🔟 Around 45,000 people attend this festival.
