top dressing bare spots with compost Hey guys, Lawn Mom here. Today we're doing a super simple project. All you need is a bag of high quality compost and a rake. There's a layer of drainage rock along this retaining wall and it makes it a little harder for the grass to grow here. But if I lightly top dress with compost and build up the soil over time, I have no doubt that the grass will spread and thrive here just like everywhere else. Since it's mid-August here in South Carolina, I've got about eight weeks left of active growing season for my zoysia. I expect to see a noticeable improvement in this part of the lawn before it goes dormant. Once I get it all spread out, I'm just going to lightly water it in and in no time those rhizomes and stolons will be working their way into the compost. If you've got bare spots or trouble spots in your yard, I highly recommend giving this cheap, 10-minute fix a try.
