Can I tell you a secret? The disability community doesn't need you running around saying who is and isn't faking their disability online and in person. Ableism is going rampant right now. On TikTok specifically, but probably everywhere else. And fake claiming is seriously at an all time high. The specific conditions that people keep saying are the ones that people are faking have those conditions, so I'd like to talk about that. If you're seeing a bunch of people online claim that they have hypermobile Ehlers Danlos syndrome, it's not because they're faking, it's because it's no longer uncommon. ALL other subtypes of EDS are rare/ultra rare! hEDS is the only subtype that is not rare. It's estimated that it could be as little as one in every 500 people. That is not rare. Another thing that's pointed out all the time is the tendency for people with Ehlers Danlos syndrome to also then have conditions like POTS and gastro paresis, MCAS, etcetera etcetera. But if you actually know anything about EDS you would know that it is more common to have comorbidities— other conditions that coincide with EDS no, people with EDS Are not collecting conditions like rare Pokemon. Like every disability, there is a spectrum of severity. There are some people who are completely valid in their diagnosis of hypermobile Ehlers Danlos syndrome who might not need mobility aids at all. And there are some people like me, who do need mobility aids. that Doesn't make anyone less or more valid. That's just how spectrums work Inside of disability. please stop further stigmatizing the disability community by spreading hateful rhetoric such as "all of us are clearly just faking."
