We are witnessing the transition from everything being hosted in the cloud and purchased as a service back over to the land of companies hosting on prem and using their own proprietary tools. Large companies like AT&T are moving away from open AI and Anthropic and going towards open weight models. And the reason don't wanna be beholden to any one AI vendor and they want to guard their intellectual property. While some people will argue that open weight models aren't as safe of them are being developed outside of the US, specifically China. A and T stands is actually the way to protect their data. However, using open weight models on premise allows them to retain data ownership. Everybody moved to the cloud because it gave them the flexibility to not have their own infrastructure. But that was before companies really understood the value of the data that they have. With open weight models, they kinda have of both worlds. They don't have ground zero. They can take the model, download it on prem, finesse it to their own specific use cases, and they still retain the data ownership. To see a this.
