“Before you copy that business you saw making someone ‘rich’ on TikTok… let me save you your money. Here are 5 businesses I personally would NOT start in Ghana in 2026.” 1. GENERAL CLOTHING BOUTIQUE 👗 “Everybody is importing clothes. Everybody is selling on Instagram. And everybody thinks posting pretty pictures equals profit.” “Your real problem? Competition + unsold inventory + constant restocking.” “If your only advantage is ‘my clothes are nice,’ you don’t have a business advantage.” 2. GENERAL PROVISION STORE 🛒 “Unless you have exceptional location, distribution or a clear niche, I’m not putting serious capital here.” “Your money gets trapped in hundreds of products with tiny margins while rent, electricity and other expenses keep eating.” 3. GENERIC FOOD BUSINESS 🍔 “‘I love cooking’ is NOT a business strategy.” “Food can sell fast and still leave you with disappointing profit after ingredients, packaging, gas, delivery, staff, spoilage and rent.” “Revenue can look impressive while your actual profit is embarrassing.” 4. GENERIC BEAUTY / COSMETICS STORE 💄 “This one will hurt.” “Just because beauty products are trending on TikTok doesn’t mean every seller is making money.” “You’re competing with established brands, wholesalers, online vendors and people selling from their bedrooms.” “And social media will show you the sales, not the dead stock.” “Here’s the mistake Ghanaians keep making: We see revenue and call it profit. We see customers and assume the owner is rich. We see TikTok and assume the business is working. I’m not saying these businesses cannot make money.
