I'm a 25-year-old nurse living in New York City and these are things I hate about being a nurse. I always talk about so many positives I have about nursing, which is a lot, but I also want to be honest and transparent with you guys because there are things I do not like about being a nurse. Number one, I hate working every other weekend. Particularly on Sundays. I'm a big Christian and I love going to church on Sundays. It just grounds me and helps me get started for the coming week. So the fact that I have to work every other weekend really bothers me because I don't get to go to church on the Sundays that I'm working. Number two, I hate, hate, hate low staffing. New York City has such a bad reputation with having low staffing. We do not have enough nurses, there's such a nursing shortage and most of the time we are working short in our hospitals. Like you can never have enough nurses. And that's something that stresses me out. Nursing is such a fulfilling job, but you don't get to enjoy it as much when you're running around your whole shift, it's just too much. Number three, and this kind of goes hand in hand with the low staffing. I hate the high census. Working in the city means that we have so many people living here, which also means we have so many patients coming into our hospitals and sometimes we are literally packed to the brim. There are too many patients. You can have 10, 11, 12, 13 patients on your assignment and there's really nothing you can do about it. That is something I do not like about nursing. But you know, it comes with the territory of working and living in the city. The final thing I hate about nursing is the scheduling. So the way we schedule our jobs is we pick the days that we want to work. But sometimes we have to make our schedules a little too far in advance. And my life is so busy. Not only am I a nurse, I'm a full-time influencer, I have businesses, I have social events I have to go to in the city. And I cannot really plan my life so far ahead. Like for example, I'm in NP school right now and I made my schedule for the upcoming September last month. But now I got my NP school schedule and a lot of the dates that they put me to work are going to be dates that I have exams. So I either have to try and switch those dates or I have to call out because obviously I'm in school. So that's something I do not like about nursing. But the scheduling is also a good thing because we only have to work three days a week. So it gives me a lot of work-life balance. And those are lists of things I do not like about being a nurse. But overall, I love my job so much and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.
