This was the last thing I expected to go viral last year, but the internet went crazy and was so divided by this decision. 💀 It’s been one year since we swapped our large smart TV out for a tiny VHS TV so I figure I owed you guys an update & to answer some frequently asked questions. “Where did you find it?” My in-laws still had this TV in their basement! We originally got a hold of it a few years early when we were trying to get our Nintendo 64 up and running. It happened to have a built-in VHS player and now that’s what we primarily use it for! Since then, I’ve sourced movies & TV shows from my parents basement, my grandparents basement & at local garage sales here and there. I’d recommend looking for a TV locally on FB Marketplace, goodwill or at garage sales since they are relatively heavy and expensive to ship. Ive noticed a lot of thrift store stopped selling VHS tapes, but oddly enough I have found a lot of antique shops that sell them (LOL 💀). This specific Magnavox TV auto-rewinds at the end of the tape which has been helpful as well. “How often do they use it?” Definitely not everyday. Maybe 3x a week? My oldest especially loves watching the Mary Kate & Ashley movies and Parent Trap. My 4 year old loves Veggie Tales & Airbud. My 1 year old is busy trying to stick her hand inside the tape player hahaha. Overall, a really fun addition to our home. I’m not anti-screen time. I’m specifically seeking out TV’s, DVD players & video games for my kids that aren’t connected to WiFi. Any issues we have had with screens in the past tend to stem from the fact that they’re connected to the internet and we come across something unexpected. It’s just not necessary & I wish tech companies would catch onto the wave of parents who are okay with devices but demand more guardrails to be in place for our kids. Bring back physical media!
