I randomly went viral this week for showing people how they can transfer it over to a USBC flash drive instead of endlessly paying to upgrade their cloud costs. I think we're coming to one very harsh truth and that is is that we don't own our photos and videos the way that we used to. Instead we're renting space to have access to them. My main concern as a mom is how can I ensure that my kids have access to their childhood memories? So today I'm just going to share with you guys what I personally am doing. This is the storage triangle. The goal is to have our media in three different spots. The first spot is cloud storage, which is great for everyday use and having backups turned on in the background. Down here is physical copy number one and over here is physical copy number two. Here are some of your main options when it comes to physical copies. And then here are your options to cloud copies. So this is what I've been doing for the last decade. Step one, I have automatic Google photo backups for my iPhone. Always happening in the background of my iPhone. Then once my camera roll completely fills up and I'm out of iPhone storage, that's when I plug in the USBC transfer everything off of my phone straight onto this. The third step to complete the storage triangle is to just make a copy of everything that's on this and put it on to a different hard drive. If you're a little psycho like I am, you can put them in a fireproof pouch. The process of archiving your personal photos and videos is not a one-and-done solution. It's something you're going to do for your lifetime because even the nicest drives, they are eventually going to fail. So the industry standard rule of thumb is not to use one of these for more than ten years. This is ownership. The cloud service represents renting. And don't get me wrong, there are some great features that I do personally use, but by no means is it the perfect safety net the way that these brands painted to be. If you're the kind of person who wants to make sure these things are being preserved properly for a lifetime, definitely make sure you hit that follow button because I have so much more to share on this topic. So follow along.
