1. Replying all unnecessarily If your response only concerns one person, the rest of us would like to be released from the email chain. 2. Interrupting someone just to repeat their point differently. You did not add context. You just rebranded what they said. 3. Calling people without checking if they’re available. This especially when the entire conversation could have been one sentence on Teams. 4. Waiting for the other person to end the call first. We’ve both said “okay, perfect, sounds good” three times. Somebody hang up. 5. Going on and on trying to get to the point. Give us the headline first. The backstory can come later if we actually need it. 6. Kissing ssa so obviously everyone notices it. Building relationships with leadership is smart. Becoming a completely different person when they enter the room is something else. Somehow, these next ones are even worse… 7. CC’ing someone’s manager unnecessarily. It’s not every minor disagreement that needs an escalation, witnesses, and a supporting cast. 8. Sending “Hi” on Teams and then I’m waiting for the rest. Please put the question in the same message. Don’t leave me staring at “Hi Cynthia” wondering what’s about to happen. 9. Volunteering everybody else for work. “We can definitely take that on” is a very bold statement when we actually means somebody else. 10. Talking just so people know you were in the meeting. You’re allowed to have nothing to add. Silence will not erase your attendance. 11. Competing over who works harder. Someone says they worked late and suddenly you haven’t slept since 2019. We believe you. Here’s your award. 12. Using corporate jargon when plain English would do. We do not need to “circle back,” “leverage synergies” and “take this offline.” Just tell us what you need. Be honest: which one instantly irritates you at work? if I missed one, put it in the comments because I already know this list needs a Part 2.
