It's time to be a hater. These are my current fashion icks. New microplastic nano trend just dropped. Whimsy core. Now personally, I actually don't think that this looks bad. Like I can see that it's cute. However, my first issue with this trend is just the waste. I'm seeing it a lot on like, face masks for no reason. Literally, this is only for a photo and I'm just seeing so many brands do it on absolutely everything. And I'm not going to stand here on a moral high horse and say that I've never done something just for social media trend. I absolutely have. It's the space that I'm in. However, this one just seems so, like, no one's going to be thinking about this in a month and then also we will have created so much waste for what? Also it's even less "whimsy" if you are generating these images with AI (which I'm starting to see). The second prong of this, which is mostly an issue, is just the name. I don't really associate this look, this aesthetic with like the term whimsy. I know that that's very much up for interpretation, but I just feel like it doesn't really make sense. The second thing is incredibly chic and all of its following discourse. I don't want to hear it anymore. I don't want to hear the term. I feel like this horse has been beaten. I think that it's important to have discourse when something is problematic. However, this one just seems so, like, lukewarm. Like, oh, everyone's talking the same. Everyone is homogenized.
