Afghan Hound x Poodle Mix

If you know me, you know I've been VERY vocal about irresponsible breeding, especially intentionally breeding mixed breeds simply because they're trendy or marketable. So imagine me having to tell y'all I now have a litter of Standard Poodle x Afghan Hound puppies. My 9-year-old Standard Poodle has only had one litter, through artificial insemination. She's lived with my intact male Standard Poodle for her whole life, even through heat cycles, and they've never successfully bred. I genuinely assumed she couldn't conceive naturally. I jokingly called her "The Virgin Mary." About 3 years ago, I rescued an intact male Afghan Hound. Unlike my Poodles, I separated them during heat cycles... until one day I let them outside together just to use the bathroom. Within FIVE MINUTES, I heard a yelp and ran outside. I didn't see them connected, so I hoped I caught it in time. Clearly I did not. 🤢 Mama was pregnant! Yes, it was an accident but preventing that accident was still MY responsibility. I knew better, made an assumption, and that was irresponsible. I'm sharing this because responsible pet ownership isn't just about loving your animals. Some of you messed up and doing better. My Afghan has since been rehomed to a responsible breeder and my poodle is still with me. But babies will be getting fixed. LESSON LEARNED. Most importantly, PLEASE spay & neuter your pets when appropriate. Shelters and rescues are overflowing, and far too many animals already need loving homes. If you have intact males and females, don't assume they're too old, they've never bred before, or "it's only five minutes." Apparently, five minutes is PLENTY. 😬 And the question we're all asking: Why didn't you terminate the pregnancy? I didn't want to.
