My take on #permgate as someone with processed hair (and yes I only dye/bleach my own hair with BOX DYE) who gets their hair permed every other year: So the first 72 HOURS following a perm is rough. No washing, no styling, no touching the curls, no pulling it up. You leave and wait. If you don’t follow the hair rules, that’s 100% on you and you run the risk of frizz and ruining all the hard work your stylist put into it. Second, perms cange your hair texture. The soap and product you used before on straight hair? Yea, not going to work. Lot’s of moisturizer! If you dont follow curly girl methods with wash, styling, sleeping, you will end up with frizz. Third, I go into every perm knowing im the idiot asking for this. The girls I go to, I trust. I know they will tell me “hey look your test strain literally says no” and we do something else. I usually grow my hair long, ready to hack it into a bob and if my hair passes the test I go with the perm because I’m ready to lose several inches anyways. Also, for major hair treatments, I think it’s really important to have a good relationship with a stylist and know their strengths. Like with tattoo artists, you should do your research before walking into a random place. Final thoughts, we never saw the permed hair for how it truly was. As I shared in the slide show, my hair looked pretty rough 48 hours after the perm. The hair in question was pulled up in a bun WITHIN 24 hours after the perm. You can’t freak out over someone’s hair when perm 101 says do not pull it up or touch the perm for 72 hours. Now, would you go after a surgeron if you went swimming post surgery and it got infected? No, because proper care was now followed. Also, if hair is that damaged adding more dye and hair extensions to it will put you in a cycle of having to use heat tools to get the texture from the damage permed hair to match the straight silky extensions. How do I know this? I learned from melting my own hair off my way back when I was 15/16 and struggled to grow it past my shoulders. 🤣 Anyways, that’s all. I love perms ❤️ #perm #hair #perms #curlyhair
