Hey Transitioning from retail to hospital pharmacy tech And if you are transitioning from retail to hospital pharmacy you might want to save this video and just keep watching there's two types of pharmacy in the hospital inpatient and outpatient outpatient is going to mirror your retail pharmacy but if you are transitioning into inpatient pharmacy here's some key differences number one the patient interaction is cut you will have little to none and I mean since the three years of being in hospital I've had little patient interaction I E meaning I'm walking down the hall or in the hallways and a patient may say hi hello or you know flag me down if they need something I tell them I'm gonna go and grab your nurse I go grab the nurse that's as far as it goes like patient interaction number two you're gonna always be communicating with nurses your main point of contact is usually the nurses and your pharmacist number three you will learn how to compound you've seen Grey's anatomy you know those IV bags or if you've just ever been in a hospital setting where you've seen IV bags or if you've had to get an IV sometimes you have to compound certain medications for the patient depending on your hospital if you batch them or you do them as you need as needed so I E a sodium phosphate or a Bumex or valproate or a Bumex or valproate those things you're gonna have to make in the IV room you're also gonna be dealing with a lot of chemo and hazardous drugs okay when it comes to compounding chemos it's gonna be in a separate area and that's a little bit more different when it comes to um garbing up if you want more information on that whole process let me know I will make a separate video for the fourth one you will be doing a lot of walking you will get so familiar with every floor every unit every station because you're doing so much walking not in position when you're sitting there you're just counting meds all day you're preparing prescriptions for patients no you will be up and down that hospital if you have any other questions or concerns please comment below let me know and I wish you the best on your new journey and your new opportunities thanks for watching bye
