police are going undercover purchasing K pop concert tickets let's talk about it the Korean police is running undercover sting operations against scalpers who are people that buy high demand items like K pop concert tickets they buy at retail price and resell them at a much higher price and they found that one of the best tactics to catch these scalpers are by going undercover disguising themselves as K pop fans and catching the resellers in Act for example in the operation the police officer poses as a SEVENTEEN fan and arranges an in person meeting with the reseller for a SEVENTEEN concert ticket the officer is literally dressed like an ordinary person what's funny is that they even act saying things like come on come on like I'm so excited 감사합니다. 어때해 this seller was selling a 150 dollar ticket for 1,200 dollars which is a times 8 markup this is how police have been continuing to gradually arrest all these resellers and while you might think like oh this feels kind of excessive like people are just trying to make money in March police arrested 16 suspects and detained three identified ringleaders this network operated from October 2022 to January 2025 they made about $5.3 million by illegally reselling 30,300 tickets across over 190 major events like G Dragon Blackpink IU and SEVENTEEN they ran a private online community of more than 1,300 members and used an automated bot software to sweep up tickets instantly when they went on sale then resold them at inflated prices not only does this cause K pop who actually want to go to the concert impossible to buy tickets the extra money you're paying for these tickets aren't even going to the artist The Korean Culture Ministry has been actively monitoring resale listings they reported another batch of scalpers to police in June 2026 and separately flagged 19 illegal BTS concert listings for investigation Koreans strengthened the law so that using automated macro programs to scale tickets is now specifically criminalized you may think like oh do these police officers have a life to go undercover but they're technically doing their job bc it is illegal to resell tickets to make a profit Hopefully this makes it easier to buy concert tickets for fans who actually want to go Imagine thinking you're going out to make a lot of money only to get arrested on the spot
