artist and automata maker Amedeo Capelli, known as Stoccafisso Design, creates playful mechanical sculptures from wood, wire and simple mechanisms. In his recent shrimp automata, a handmade crustacean comes to life through a system of wooden gears, cams, rods and rotating parts hidden beneath the stage. Turning the crank transfers motion through the mechanism, making the shrimp’s body and limbs move in an exaggerated, almost theatrical way. Capelli’s work combines traditional automata-making, kinetic sculpture and humor. Instead of hiding the mechanics, he often leaves them visible, allowing us to understand how a simple rotation can be transformed into surprisingly complex movement. #shrimp #art #artist #niche #weird
