This is exactly what you are going to do when you get home if you are serious about becoming a better student. Top grades are not made at school. Your academic success is determined by what you do when you get home. So this is what I did to get 5 A stars and first class honours degree from LSE and all A's and 9s at GCSE. The first thing to understand is that when you get home, there is nobody chasing you to do work unless you have very strict parents. You actually have to take things into your own hands. And whilst that is a lot of responsibility, you do have freedom. So I always say that when I get home, I take about 30 minutes to just chill. Go on my phone, have some iPad baby time, watch TV, have a snack. Because when you've been at school for six, seven hours, the last thing you want to do is dive into homework. Again, if you like to do that, then that's you. But for me, I just like to have a little break and then kick back after about 30-45 minutes. So after I've had my snack and watched my YouTube, I like to sit down and I like to make a to-do list. And there are simply just three things. There are three tasks for the night. And you know why? Because that is 15 tasks a week, and that is realistic. If I were to say to myself, I'm going to revise for eight hours every night, that's absurd. Examples. I may have create biology flashcards from today. I might have do my homework for RE tomorrow. I might have do my university reading for this class I have in two days. And these tasks may vary in length. But all in all, I would never really spend more than two hours doing additional work or homework per night, unless it was very close to exam season, or unless it was my final year at university. Because if you are doing hours and hours and hours of studying when you get home, you're going to burn out. Burnout, these procrastination leads to worse grades. And quite frankly, misery. But then you're not done just yet. After this, I would make sure to do something that will benefit my future self. So maybe this is practicing the piano because I didn't use to practice very much. Maybe it's just trying out a new recipe for your dinner. Maybe it's applying for a job. Whatever it is, make sure it's not doomscrolling. Maybe you are building on a skill. Maybe you are applying for some sort of opportunity, reading a book for your personal statement. It doesn't really matter. And then after that's done, then the night is yours.
