Stop booking your flights on the Amex portal before you know this. I'm about to book my flight with my Amex points. New York to London, how many points? 100,000. Don't do that. Why not? That's what the Amex portal says. The same flight is 12,000 points. 12,000? Where? Through the airline directly. You just have to transfer your points. I didn't even know you could do that. Most people don't, that's why they're wasting 88,000 points. Okay, how do you find these flights? Use a site like seats.aero. It's like Google Flights, but for points. Never heard of it. It shows you award availability on all the airlines. Find your route and see how many points it actually costs. Then what? Go to the airline's website. Virgin Atlantic, Air France, whoever has the flight. Confirm it's available. Make sure they have enough seats for your group. And then I book it there? First, you transfer your Amex points. Open your Amex app, go to the Membership tab. Hit Transfer Points, pick the airline. Enter your membership number and send the points over. How long does that take? And send the points over. How long does that take? Usually instant, sometimes up to 24 hours. But wait, don't you have to pay like $600 in taxes when you book through airlines? Sometimes, yeah. Let's do the math though. Okay. 100,000 points on Amex for a thousand dollar flight, that's one cent per point. 12,000 points plus $60 in taxes. Your points are worth over three cents each. So even with taxes, I'm coming out ahead. Way ahead. Sometimes you just gotta spend a little to save a lot. Who taught you this? The Deals Concierge. So make sure you hit that follow button for more.
