the artist Thomas Deininger creates sculptures and assemblages from discarded plastic, old toys and everyday objects, transforming consumer waste into surprisingly realistic images. His bird sculptures are built as anamorphic assemblages. Seen from the side, they appear to be chaotic collections of unrelated objects. But from one precise viewpoint, the fragments suddenly align to reveal a detailed bird. Deininger is also a birdwatcher and naturalist, and birds repeatedly appear throughout his practice from hummingbirds and cardinals to woodpeckers, hawks and macaws. In works such as Macawll of the Wild, a blue-and-yellow macaw emerges entirely from found materials. The technique creates a striking contradiction: the beauty of the natural world is reconstructed from the waste produced by consumer culture. #bird #art #artist #weird #niche
