1. Hard-boiled eggs. Probably one of the least exciting travel foods on earth, but that’s exactly why they work. They’re easy to portion, easy to pack in a cooler, and give me a protein option when everything around me is airport snacks and fast food 2. String cheese and turkey roll-ups. This is my “I need actual food but don’t need an entire meal” option. Roll a few slices of turkey around string cheese, throw them in the cooler, and I have something protein-focused ready in seconds 3. Pre-portioned nuts or seeds. The key word here is pre-portioned. I’m not bringing the entire bag and pretending I’m going to magically know when I’ve had enough. I portion them before leaving so I know exactly what I packed 4. Cut vegetables with hummus. Cucumbers, peppers, carrots, whatever travels well. It gives me something crunchy to eat without automatically reaching for chips or crackers every time we stop somewhere 5. Emergency jerky. This lives in my bag for the moment when plans fall apart, the restaurant is closed, the flight gets delayed, or everyone suddenly decides dinner is happening three hours later than expected. Having backup food keeps an inconvenience from becoming a food emergency 6. Protein shakes. YES, you heard me. I don’t rely on shakes in my normal maintenance diet, but travel can be different. If I know finding real food is going to be difficult, I’d rather have an emergency protein option with me than be completely unprepared The biggest travel lesson I learned after bariatric surgery is that I don’t need perfect food everywhere I go I just need enough good options with me that hunger doesn’t get to make every decision #bariatricsurgery
