1. Trail mix. Nuts, dried fruit, chocolate, seeds, basically every food that’s easy to pick at thrown into one bag. A few handfuls can add up FAST, and somehow it still feels like I barely ate anything. I know myself well enough to know that if a giant bag is sitting in my pantry, I’m going back for another handful 2. Flavored coffee creamers. This was one of those things I never really counted because technically I wasn’t “eating” anything. But a pour in the morning, another coffee later, and suddenly I’ve added a bunch of calories to my day without chewing a single thing or feeling any fuller from it 3. Granola. This one gets marketed like it belongs next to Greek yogurt and berries, but it’s ridiculously easy to eat way more than you think. A little sprinkle turns into half a bowl real fast, and I’d rather add actual fruit or chia to my yogurt and eat something that keeps me satisfied longer 4. Frozen “diet” meals. I spent enough of my life buying things because the box said low-calorie, low-fat, or “guilt-free.” Four years post-op, I care way more about what’s actually on my plate. Give me chicken, turkey, salmon, eggs, beans and vegetables that actually feel like a meal 5. Dried fruit. Raisins, dried cranberries, mango, dates, all of it. There’s nothing inherently wrong with dried fruit, but it’s way too easy for me to eat a lot of it because all that volume from the water is gone. I’d rather eat the actual fruit and get a portion that feels like I ate something 6. Nut butter. Peanut butter, almond butter, cashew butter, I don’t care how “clean” the ingredients are. Two tablespoons can easily land around 180-200 calories, and for me that’s a lot of calories for something that doesn’t give me much protein or take up much space in my stomach. I’d rather use those calories on actual food I’m not saying you can NEVER eat any of these foods after bariatric surgery But I stopped keeping these foods in my house because they make staying consistent harder for ME #bariatricsurgery
