South Korean artist Do Ho Suh creates sculptures and large-scale installations exploring identity, memory, home and the relationship between the individual and the collective. In Floor (1997–2000), thousands of tiny human figures made from PVC and polyurethane resin stand beneath transparent glass panels. Each figure stretches its arms upward, collectively supporting the surface above. Around 3,000 figures can appear beneath a single glass panel. From a distance, the installation looks like a dense field of color. Only when you move closer do you realize that every small shape is a person. The figures differ in gender and appearance, yet together they perform exactly the same action.
