Apple just unveiled its first foldable iPhone, the new iPhone Duo, starting at $1,999 and going up to $3,199 for the 2TB model. So naturally, we had to ask: can you write off an iPhone Duo on your taxes? 👀 If you’re self-employed, a freelancer, independent contractor, or small business owner, a phone can potentially qualify as a business tax deduction when it genuinely supports the work you do. But buying Apple’s most expensive foldable iPhone does not automatically mean you can deduct the full $3,199. For example, say you buy the 2TB iPhone Duo for $3,199 and use it 70% for business: $3,199 × 70% = $2,239 business-use portion That $2,239 is a potential tax deduction, not $2,239 back from the IRS. Your case is stronger when you can show how the phone supports your business, whether that’s client calls, content creation, photography, email, documents, or using the iPhone Duo’s larger foldable display and split-screen multitasking for work. And if you use your phone for both business and personal purposes, keep track of your business-use percentage. If the IRS ever asks, you should be able to show what you paid, how much you used it for work, and why it was connected to your business.
