How to actually treat hyperkalemia 👇 The framework: stabilize → shift → remove IV calcium protects the heart. Insulin + dextrose and albuterol temporarily shift K⁺ into cells. Diuretics, potassium binders, and dialysis remove K⁺ from the body. Bicarbonate may have a role when significant metabolic acidosis is present. And don’t forget to reassess: repeat K⁺, monitor the ECG and glucose, and watch for rebound hyperkalemia.
