The guy who invented the tetrapod was a straight up genius.

The guy who invented the tetrapod was a straight up genius. Ocean waves are powerful enough to destroy roads, buildings, and entire coastlines. The obvious fix, build massive concrete walls, but here's the problem. Walls take the full impact head on and all that energy slams directly into them. In 1950, French engineers found a way smarter solution. Instead of trying to stop the ocean, they designed a concrete block with four legs sticking out in different directions. The tetrapod. When a wave hits, water flows between the blocks, gradually losing its energy and destructive force. No direct impact, no catastrophic pressure. Elegant, right? But here's the dark side nobody talks about. You should never walk on tetrapods. People have fallen into the gaps between them and couldn't get out. Ever. Sometimes the smartest engineering solution is also the most dangerous place to stand.
