If your SCM or chest roll hurts, pain is not the goal. Fascia is highly innervated, with sensory and pain-related nerve endings that respond to mechanical input. So if an area feels “glued,” sensitive or almost impossible to roll, forcing it harder isn’t the answer. And actually, I see this as good news. When I find significant restriction through the chest and neck, I know there is still an opportunity to improve how these tissues move. And because this region is mechanically connected with the neck, platysma and lower face, it’s an area I pay close attention to when working on the jawline and overall facial appearance. With age, connective tissues also change in stiffness, collagen organization and their ability to glide. Keeping movement between tissue layers is one reason consistency matters. So if you can barely do the chest roll today, don’t fight your body. Start where you are and keep working with it gradually. There may be much more opportunity there than you think. 🤍
