FREE OF WHAT? by SPENSER LITTLE. Artist Spenser Little creates sculptures and public installations by bending metal wire into words, portraits and three-dimensional drawings. For this installation at Artown NOW, a Romanian urban art festival exploring the theme The Grammar of Freedom, Little transforms a short question into a large wire sculpture suspended above an industrial street. The words “FREE OF WHAT” appear to float in the sky, while the metal lines supporting them become part of the drawing itself. Inspired by a quote from philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, the work asks us to look beyond the idea of freedom as simply escaping something.
