Horn Head, the 1986 Madballs Cyclops, traces back to a 1958 movie monster. He came out of Those Characters From Cleveland, the American Greetings studio behind the Care Bears. Madballs artist James Groman says a couple of the artists there were Ray Harryhausen fans, and he reads Horn Head as a homage to the Cyclops in The 7th Voyage of Sinbad. Groman joined after the first series was designed, so treat it as an informed read from inside the building. AmToy's own package backs it up: "a one-horned Cyclops with a ring through his nose." Did your Madballs ever make it back inside, or did they live in the yard? #90stoyvault #madballs #hornhead #vintagetoys #80stoys
