Apparently, the “real Ethiopia” is actually in South America… 🤣🤦🏾♂️ But what did the ancient Greeks and Romans actually mean when they used the term Aethiopia? In his Histories, the Greek historian Herodotus described Ethiopia as a region south of Egypt. He discussed Ethiopians living beyond Elephantine, near modern-day Aswan, and referred to Meroë in the context of Ethiopia. Other ancient sources, such as Thucydides, also used “Ethiopia” in an African geographical context. The ancient term Aithiopia is traditionally associated with the idea of “burnt-faced” people. It was used in ancient geographical and ethnographic writing, particularly in reference to peoples and lands south of Egypt. The modern country of Ethiopia later adopted this ancient name. So how exactly does one get from ancient Ethiopia south of Egypt to “the real Ethiopia is in South America”? 🤔🤣 #AfricanHistory #Ethiopia #comedy #BlackHistory #africantiktok
