There’s nothing wrong with Black Americans wanting to distinguish and preserve their own unique history, culture and lineage. That deserves to be respected. But what happens when “delineation” turns into harassing, insulting or antagonising Africans and Caribbeans simply because they aren’t FBA? That’s what I’m questioning here. 🤦🏾♂️ The two clips I came across show Black people confronting Africans and Carribeans over their identity and telling them they’re “not American” or that they’re on “our turf.” I genuinely don’t understand the point of that. You can recognise the distinct history of Foundational Black Americans without treating African or Caribbean people with hostility. Those identities and histories can coexist. And importantly, I’m talking about the individuals shown in these clips not claiming that every FBA or Black American thinks or behaves this way. So where exactly does legitimate cultural delineation end and xenophobia begin? 🤔 #africantiktok #africandiaspora #identitycrisis #BlackTikTok #fba
