😭💀 So apparently you can be born in America, have Black American ancestry, and STILL be told you’re not FBA because of how you look. In this clip, Tariq Nasheed questions a young Black man from North Carolina about his ancestry, suggesting that his features and hairline mean he must actually be African or an “anchor baby.” But that raises a ridiculous question: what happens when Black Americans themselves have features commonly associated with Africans? Black people in the Americas aren’t a single-looking population. Centuries of African ancestry, migration, admixture and different regional histories have produced enormous diversity in appearance. At some point, if you’re deciding who belongs based on someone’s facial features, hairline or complexion, the conversation starts looking less like ancestry and more like colourism. 😭 And the irony? If you start policing your own people based on appearance, you might end up arguing with the very Black Americans you’re supposedly trying to distinguish from Africans. 💀 #Africantiktok #BlackHistory #colorism #BlackTikTok #comedy
