A geography professor just built a free, open source GIS tool that does what Quantum GIS and Google Earth Pro charge hundreds of dollars a month for, and it runs entirely inside your browser. His name is Qiusheng Wu, and the tool is called GeoLibre. The first time you open it, you can explore any city in 2D and then watch it come alive in full 3D with a single click. You can jump to other planets, travel back in time to see how a place has changed, or load your own data and build a world map from scratch. And here's where it gets serious. It runs over 1,000 geoprocessing tools right inside your browser tab. No installation required. There's also a built-in AI assistant where you describe what you want in plain English, and it builds the analysis for you. It works on Windows, Mac, Linux, and there's even a native Android app, so you can take the full toolkit offline into the field. While Google Earth Pro just announced it's moving to a paid tier at up to $150 a month, but GeoLibre is completely free. So if you want to try it out, check the link in the pinned comments below.
