Yesterday I got a "Be My Eyes" call and I actually answered it. And the girl was just like, "Does this pillow look nice on my couch?" And I was like, "It does." And she was like, "Is it the one with the pumpkins on it?" And I was like, "It is." And it says "grateful and she was like, "And it looks nice with my blanket." Like, so happy her that. That was it. All it took to be a nice person. The app that she's talking about is called "Be My Eyes." Lend your eyes to the blind. It's like, the most incredible use of technology for patients that are blind or struggle with visual impairment. The concept of this app is incredibly simple. Someone who is blind or visually impaired can FaceTime call a sighted volunteer, which was her, and that would basically give her the opportunity to lend her eyes to this visually impaired person. On top of human assistance, "Be My Eyes" also offers AI powered visual assistance where you can take a photo of the room and have it essentially describe everything to you. Visual impairment doesn't just affect visual acuity, it can impair your quality of life and your independence. So seeing accessibility tools like this is absolutely amazing and gives me a lot of hope for the future.
