Pain in your glute is one of the most misdiagnosed complaints I see. Most people are told it’s sciatica and sent home to stretch. Sometimes it is a pinched nerve from a lumbar disc. Often it isn’t. Five sources I work through in clinic: 1. Disc / nerve root irritation (pain can stay in the buttock) 2. SI joint 3. Piriformis / deep gluteal space 4. Referred pain from lumbar facets 5. Hip problems that mimic the spine The location of the pain is not the diagnosis. How it started, what makes it worse, and what makes it better are all clues. If this has been going on for weeks, don't keep stretching the same spot. Get it evaluated.
