China is putting autonomous electric cargo vehicles on public roads without driver cabins

A cabless cargo vehicle spotted in China shows how autonomous electric transport can be designed differently when there is no need to accommodate a human driver. Instead of building around a steering wheel, pedals and driving position, purpose-built autonomous vehicles can dedicate more of their structure to cargo, batteries, sensors and control hardware. Cameras, radar or LiDAR can provide environmental data, while drive-by-wire systems electronically control steering, acceleration and braking. China already has several companies developing cabless electric vehicles for logistics, ports and mining, but the exact model shown in this short clip cannot be reliably identified from the footage alone.
