A giant $130 million shopping center is coming to Brooklyn's Bay Ridge. It's going up on the old Century 21 site on 86th Street, which has sat mostly empty since December 2020. We know Burlington signed a lease for 44,000 square feet here. But we don't know the name of the other major tenant. They've signed a lease with a national grocery store for over 16,000 square feet. The developers claim this will be the first national grocery chain in this immediate area. So which chain is it? They haven't released the name yet. And if you're from Bay Ridge, you already know what everyone's hoping for — could it actually be a Trader Joe's? But don't confuse this with the planned SuperFresh. Another family bought the old parking garage on 88th Street for that store. Since both projects sit on different pieces of the old Century 21 property, people mix them up. Crews started tearing down the old buildings in December 2025, targeting a 2028 opening. Right now, the development is 65% leased.
