Sometimes the biggest leaps forward come from unexpected detours. Which historical 'oops' moment blew your mind?

Sometimes history's biggest mistakes at the time were considered genius moves back in their day. So, one example is the Boston Tea Party because the communication lag. Believe it or not, the King of England was actually getting ready to grant independence to the colonies, except for the catch is that because of the communication lag, by the time he found out about the Boston Tea Party, it was over. He cut, that's when the Revolutionary War started. Another example is, um, officers dressing too nice. So, nowadays you see officers with like black or like the brown things to indicate gold or silver, right? But believe it or not, the Revolutionary War would have actually been won by the British had a famous general that was really good at like logistics, which is making sure and moving stuff around, you know, getting stuff to the battlefield correctly. We call that like shipping today, right? Like on-time delivery. Basically, this guy was an expert on-time delivery. He got assassinated by a guy that picked him off from a tree.
