Here's how I would invest my first $1000 into the stock market as a complete beginner. If I had to start all over again, these are the three stocks that I would buy just to get started. As a beginner, you want to keep things as simple as possible, which means investing your money into ETFs. These are essentially just groupings of the world's largest companies all put into one individual fund by professionals so that you don't have to do the work. First, I would invest $500 into VOO. This ETF holds a bucket of companies to track the S&P 500 index, which is pretty much the golden standard for investing. Second, I would put $300 into QQQM, which is a tech-focused fund that replicates the Nasdaq 100 index with companies like Nvidia and Apple. And lastly, put around $200 into VXUS. This holds around 9,000 companies in all different sectors designed to replicate the performance of all stocks outside of the United States to diversify your portfolio. This is day two of 20 of Navigating your 20s where I run through an exact roadmap of how to set yourself up financially in addition to getting a job out of college.
