A Humanoid Robot Company Just Sent Its Old Robots Into Molten Steel Figure, the US-based humanoid robotics company, gave its retired Figure 02 (F.02) robots an extraordinary send-off by training them to jump into a furnace filled with molten steel. The dramatic footage was filmed at a steel plant in Finland and recreates the iconic ending of Terminator 2: Judgment Day. The decision came as Figure expanded its newer F.03 robot fleet. According to the company, maintaining the older F.02 machines no longer made sense, while manually dismantling them would take valuable engineering time and risk exposing proprietary hardware. Instead, Figure turned their decommissioning into a cinematic spectacle, with the robots autonomously leaping into the furnace. The stunt was inspired by Arnold Schwarzenegger, who suggested melting the robots when Figure CEO Brett Adcock asked for ideas. It is a striking example of how robotics companies are retiring older hardware while protecting their technology and moving toward newer generations of humanoid robots. ⚠️ DISCLAIMER Video credit: Figure AI.
