Is France gonna make it? Succession, Season 4, Episode 5, “Kill List.” Aired April 2023. Three and a half years later, France is in the middle of a nationwide student revolt. It started in late September with peaceful school blockades in Seine-Saint-Denis, over a lack of teachers and crumbling, overcrowded schools. It has since spread to hundreds of lycées across the country, with clashes, fires and thousands of arrests. The government says the students’ demands are legitimate but has condemned the violence. What Succession always got right was how power talks about moments like this: a whole country’s future, discussed over dinner like a stock that might crash.
