We have to be our brother’s keeper and our neighbour’s keeper. We need to become more conscious of what is happening around us, because protecting our children and women starts with paying attention, speaking up, and taking concerns seriously. There have been people raising concerns about Joshua and Royalty, including how he dresses her and interacts with her, but those concerns have not always been taken seriously. Now, with allegations of physical abuse under investigation, I hope this becomes a wake-up call for all of us. If you see something, say something. If something makes you uncomfortable, speak up. If a child is trying to tell us something, listen. We cannot wait until a situation becomes a crisis before we decide to pay attention. We all have a responsibility to help protect the vulnerable. Let us stop dismissing concerns, stop turning a blind eye, and start taking the safety and well-being of our children seriously.
