Why it worked

The creator uses a relatable, physical object to ground an abstract spiritual concept, making the message highly visual and easy to digest.

Summary

A pastor uses his broken iPhone as a visual metaphor to explain that personal brokenness does not prevent one from fulfilling their purpose. He contrasts the damaged back of the phone with its still-functional front to illustrate his point.

Structure

1Speaker introduces his broken phone
2Speaker notes people's concern about the damage
3Speaker explains the phone is a conversation starter
4Speaker uses the phone as a metaphor for human brokenness
5Speaker concludes that brokenness does not hinder one's purpose

Product placement

iPhone (a) it ACTS — the speaker holds it up to demonstrate a broken back while the front remains functional, using it as a prop for his sermon/metaphor. Removing it would change the visual metaphor of the video.

This my phone. Everybody that sees this phone gets so concerned. Oh my goodness, you need a case for that phone. But this has been my number one conversation starter and it all started when it broke. The back of this thing is broken. The front of this thing still functions. We all have a back end. We all have a backstory that includes our brokenness, but it does not have to hinder you from the front end functioning the way God perfectly intended it to function.
