Tweezing (AKA Clamping); trap a hold witchya legs! I come from a long line of tweezers. My pappy was a tweezer, my pappy’s pappy tweezed, and my grand pappy twuz. So I know a thing or three bout this here sideways bicycle technology. The goal of this form of foot clamping is to compress the sides of a foothold in order to stabilize and anchor the lower body, when pushing downwards is not an option. Typically, the sides of this type of foothold are also not sufficient enough to provide meaningful purchase, worthy of a single heel hook or toe-in. A lesser climber would consider themselves fee-fi-fo-facked, but not you! Not if you press inwards, hard (I mean real hard now) with the bottoms of your feet and focus on opening up those child bearing hips! (Technically everyone’s hips bear children, if ya think about it). The harder you squeeze, the more secure the foot will become and the more you open your hips and sink into the foot, the better the angle of pull you’ll achieve on the hand! Moving your hands while in a tweeze can be very challenging at first, so practice on jugs for the hands and slowly progress the difficulty as you gain the ability to do bigger hand moves and have your feet stay! While this technique is more common on steeper terrain, sometimes you can experience the joy of finding it on vert or slab and you can vice-grip a hold so that you can go no hands and sit on nothing but the pressure! Neat, huh!? Go ahead, try it out if you think im lying. I’m not, and why would I? What could I possibly have to gain from that? Anyway, more importantly… Let me know in the comments what you had for breakfast today. If it wasn’t egg related, I don’t wanna hear about it, and honestly, just unfollow me. #Ihadeggstodayhbu @physivantage @cruxpowerclimbing @pitch.six @organicclimbing @fazabrushes @hardwoodholds @climbbutora #climbing #bouldering #sportclimbing #climbingtraining
