iPhone Duo Crease - YouTuber Folds iPhone Duo 10K Times. Then froze it What happens to Apple's $1,999 iPhone Duo after 10,000 folds? YouTuber Tim Pan found out. He folded one 500 times by hand, put it on a machine for 10,000 more, then ran another 1,000 folds at minus 20°C (minus 4°F). Why the crease shows up: Apple says the Duo's inner screen is made of 10 ultrathin layers, held together with a custom adhesive that lets them glide like pages in a book. But all the bending still happens along one line in the middle, so every fold adds a tiny bit of wear there. What the test found: • After 500 folds, the crease was slightly deeper • After 10,000 folds, it was clearly visible, and with the screen off the matte finish couldn't hide it • The hinge stayed smooth and still helped the phone open like day one • The inner screen kept working • Hair and sand can get into the hinge at certain angles In a separate test, Joanna Stern's folding robot opened and closed a Duo 32,640 times, and she couldn't feel a difference in the hinge in everyday use. 3 rules if you're buying one: 1. Keep it away from keys and coins 2. Don't press the inner screen with your fingernail 3. Think hard about AppleCare+. An inner display repair costs $999 out of warranty, or $99 with AppleCare+ Would you pay $1,999 for a phone that creases a little more every time you close it?
