So, no matter what your job is, one of the most important skills you can have is knowing how to run a meeting. And as an ex-Facebook product manager, I'll tell you how I run my meetings. First, you should actually really decide if you even need a meeting in the first place or if it can just be replaced with an email or a one-page document. The main criteria I use is if I think there's going to be a lot of back and forth discussion then I'll schedule meeting because talking in person is a lot faster than talking through emails or a one-page document. The second thing is, make sure you're clear on what you and other people will get out of the meeting. So, in my mind, there's three things I usually want to get out of a meeting. I either want to inform somebody, I want to discuss something or I want to decide on something. During the meeting, make sure you're clear on the purpose if it's to inform, discuss or decide. The third thing is make sure you take notes, but also most importantly, make sure you have notes on next steps and you clearly document what you're going to do next after the meeting. So now, hopefully you're equipped to run better meetings. Let me know how it goes.
