I started by building my IT and networking fundamentals. I got myself a help desk job so that allowed me to earn and learn. I was technically minded, so that allowed me to build these IT and networking fundamentals, which are extremely important. Then, I built my cybersecurity fundamentals. You can use something like the CompTIA Security Plus, but also the labs as well. Also, the Google Cybersecurity Certificate is a really great one. I did a degree in business and IT, but today I would instead do these. Then, I was looking to pick a job, and the job that I thought would be best, and the best job for switching over from help desk, was that of a cybersecurity analyst. So I started learning everything that I needed to be an analyst. So, learning SIEM, so this is a tool that cybersecurity analysts use every single day. Started learning incident response, started learning about cloud attack and defense, attack types, so the different cyber attacks that are out there, threat hunting, and threat intelligence. So I'd recommend that you Google each one of these topics and start to learn about it. Then, home projects, so I started setting up home projects at home. These days, you can do set up tools like Wazuh, Sentinel, and Elastic SIEM. All your home projects want to relate to each one of these areas. Then, I set up a skills-based resume and CV, and I was consistent in applying for jobs. I failed many job interviews, job applications, but I was consistent here, and my consistency allowed me to succeed.
