They create a fake Instagram login page that ends up actually being hosted on a domain that looks like Instagram. They host it on what is called a lookalike domain. So, as you can see, this is the real one. This is Instagram where they've used an L instead of an I. So it's just a small change, but this is something that can really be difficult to spot at times. And then they'll try and become your friend. So they'll message you, try and become your friend. They might even ask about, talk about if your profile is public, they might ask you about questions about things they might know about from your profile so that they can show that they know you. But they'll ultimately just try and eventually ask you for something. And then once they ask you for something, they'll send you a link to that fake Instagram domain. You'll end up typing in your username and password and they'll be able to get access to your account. So, what can you do? Stop and think. Don't click random links. It's very rare that anybody in your DMs needs you to actually click on a link to actually enter your username and password. Does it often feel urgent? Does it feel like they're kind of pushing you to do this? And do you know this person? I think, why am I clicking links from a person that I don't know? Does it even make sense? Like go through the conversation, is what they're telling you, does it sound legit? Does it sound like something that you would actually do yourself? And like I said, you should never need to type your password in from an Instagram message.
