I became a VP before the age of 30, so let's talk about three things that I just do not tolerate. One, and I actually think this is the most important, is I don't tolerate the answer no. Simply just not in my vocabulary, I don't speak that language and neither should you. And while yes, you should discern the situations that are simply just not for you and allow yourself to walk away from them, if you strongly believe in something and you want to go for it, you should go for it and don't let anyone stop you. If someone tells you no, you're probably just asking the wrong person. Second of all, but literally just as important, is I don't have enough experience. Take that out of your vocabulary. Because chances are that's not true or you're just being lazy. There are just way too many ways to optimize the experience that you do have or you need to figure out how to offer free services until you can build up your experience. And even at this level of my career, I still do things for free just so I can gain the experience. If there's no seat for me at the table, guess what? I brought one with me. And last but certainly not least is I do not tolerate being spoken over. Is there something that made you think that what you have to say is more important than what I have to say? To never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever place small to make others feel comfortable. And to be honest, for me, it was really never about the title. I just wanted to become somebody that I was proud of becoming, and I think I did that.
