there's a new customer service phenomenon that I've experienced last night at a pizza shop

there's a new customer service phenomenon that I've experienced last night at a pizza shop but mostly I've experienced this at like coffee shops when I'm ordering coffee and which I the customer will walk up and I will greet the employee because I'm friendly, right? So I'll go, hi, good morning, how's your day going? And they'll go, good, or whatever. And typically like after that, they say nothing. Or if I don't greet the person as the customer, they just like look at me. They just like look like as though I'm supposed to be like reading their mind. They don't ask anymore like what can I get you or like what can I get started for you. They just like I get like as a customer I'm like are you ready to take my order? Because I have extensive experience in customer facing roles taking orders from people and to me in my experience and opinion, it's rude when a customer just like walks up to me at like behind the counter and just like starts barking orders at me. Like I have first of all, how do you even know that I'm ready for you? Like what if I'm finishing up someone's previous order, what if I have to go tell something to someone in the kitchen? Like what if I'm not ready? Like that's why I feel like as as the person behind the counter like you should in my opinion be like what can I get started for you? That invites the customer to like order their food from you. To me like that's the social contract, right? Like that's the way that interaction goes down. I the customer walk up to the person who's serving me and they ask me what they can get started for me and then I tell them that. But recently, it's been like I walk up to the counter and they just kind of like look at me and then I'm kind of like looking at them too because like I don't want to be rude and just start like again, like barking orders at them. Like that feels like inconsiderate. But then we're both just there looking at each other and they're like irritated that I'm not ordering even though they haven't indicated that they're ready to take my order. Can someone like if you I I don't work in food service I haven't worked in food service for a couple of years. So if this is like a new a new thing where like people just look at you now and like wait for you to order, please let me know because I am trying to of course be up I'm trying to be hip, I'm not trying to be a back in my day boomer. However, I just I do find it to be a bit strange, okay? And maybe that's just because I need to catch up with the times. But if I walk in and I'm I want to order a coffee like could you please like indicate that you're ready for me to order so I don't feel weird? I don't know. I can already see the comments on this video. Oh why do you feel entitled for people to be nice to you? It's because like I don't need the I don't need my barista or whoever serving me my pizza to be like sucking my dick. I would however like some level of like basic like politeness, like civility between like I don't know I don't feel like that's like asking too much emotional labor of an of an employee, you know what I mean? I've been an employee like I've been the archer I've been the prey. I've been on both sides of the counter many, many times and like I just feel like your job is customer service. Like you do need to provide service to the customer. Again, I'm sorry if I'm out of touch. I'm really not trying to be.
