Warren Buffett has a saying when everybody is greedy he is fearful when everybody is fearful he is greedy my students ask me how do you know everybody's done selling how do you know a bottom is in and I tell my students this one great indicator that I look at to identify that there's no more sellers as we near a bottom what we see is that people dump to cash institutions go to cash and they pull off their hedges how do we identify when hedges are being removed there's an indicator in the market called the VIX the VIX it measures the amount of demand of options within the S&P 500 when we see the market go lower VIX spikes because people are buying options buying puts to hedge off a down move when we see in the market the market continue to go lower but we're seeing lower highs in the VIX people are going to cash and they're taking off their puts they're taking off their hedges which is why we're seeing lower highs this is a good indication we're getting near a bottom

Warren Buffett has a saying, when everybody is greedy he is fearful. When everybody is fearful he is greedy. My students asked me, how do you know everybody's done selling? How do you know a bottom is in? And I tell my students this one great indicator that I look at to identify that there's no more sellers. As we near a bottom what we see is that people dump to cash, institutions go to cash and they pull off their hedges. How do we identify when hedges are being removed? There's an indicator in the market called the VIX, the VIX. It measures the amount of demand of options within the S&P 500. When we see the market go lower, VIX spikes because people are buying options, buying puts to hedge off a down move. When we see in the market the market continue to go lower but we're seeing lower highs in the VIX, people are going to cash and they're taking off their puts, they're taking off their hedges, which is why we're seeing lower highs. This is a good indication we're getting near a bottom.
